



Shirley Longfellow grew up in a rural community where her playground was the great
outdoors. She began drawing and painting landscapes in elementary school. On her
sixteenth birthday, much to her delight, she was given a brownie "Starflash" camera which
with she began a long and prosperous photography career.
At age eighteen she moved to Arizona and attended Phoenix College and after her first
degree went on to Arizona State University. During this time she studied and was influenced
by photographic Artists such as, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and Minor White. She
worked her way through college by photographing weddings, and submitting freelance
photography to publications such as Golf Digest, Scottsdale Park News, and Sports
Illustrated. Her mainstay income came from American Photographic Corporation on New
York as a portrait photographer.
She met her husband Jimmy Longfellow/ a musical artist, and thus was born a musical
duo called "The Longfellows". They have performed together in more than 25 states and
currently have a CD linked to this website that has received radio airplay in several states and
in Europe.
By 1986 Shirley's Photographic artistry was exposed to juried international photographic
competition, and she is now recognized as a premier southwestern photographic artist. Her
photography is now accepted in some of the finest art shows in America.
Shirley Longfellow is solely responsible for the images and does all of the printing and
matting. The hand built frames are a dual effort with her husband Jimmy Longfellow.
